Words From The Intelligent: Caroline Mutoko Explains Why The Kenyan Entertainment Scene Will Never Flourish

Today morning, Caroline Mutoko, Linda Nyangweso and Chipukeezy were having a rather insightful conversation that explained why Kenya’s entertainment industry has been unable to grow and prosper. No, the 5-7 truly financially successful artists do not a successful entertainment represent. Think about it. Really stew on it for a minute.

Caroline Mutoko actually hit the nail on the head when she said that the problem with Kenyans is the “scarcity mentality”. The whole thought process that dictates that you pour bucketloads of hate on a celebrity actor or entertainer simply because you’re scared that by praising them for their talent you will diminish the levels of praise and applause for yourself if you ever get to their level.

At this point, allow me to share this gem of wisdom, “Depression is anger at self pointed inwards, hate is anger at self pointed outwards”. Come to think of it, this explains why whenever a Kenyan does something outstanding, you can always count on Kenyans to tear him or her down.

It really doesn’t make any sense why we treat politicians like prophets yet they are often all nothing but harbingers of doom and gloom! And when we have say Bahati, a humble talented lad climb out of poverty thanks to his art, we want to tear him down. This nonsense makes no sense!

Think about it, the more praise we heap on Kenyan artists, the greater the heights our entertainment industry can ascend to. And that just means that there will be even more for everyone. Build rather than tear down. You think not? Just ask the closest Nigerian to your girlfriend! Na wettin  omoNaija dey do for am grow e Naija pop for sef!
