Warning to All Nairobians: Switch to Digital TV by End-month, OR ELSE…

The Nairobi deadline for switching from analogue to digital is December 31st this year. Meaning your TV might not receive any signal next year if you do not a get a digital set-top box in time and switch in time.

Bitange Ndemo, the Information Permanent Secretary, confirmed that the deadline will not be postponed. Not only that, but hopes of getting cheaper set-top boxes were dashed when he revealed that an appeal to give subsidies for the equipment was declined by The Treasury. The average price of set-top boxes is currently Kshs. 5,000.

Kenya seeks to make the conversion ahead of the global deadline which is 2015. The Communications Commission of Kenya has also embarked on an awareness campaign to educate the consumers on the benefits of migrating to digital, which will facilitate better picture quality on television sets.
