Uganda Human Rights Commission Requests For Betty Nambooze To be Released
Following her arrest, the condition of Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze has been constantly on a decline. These followed injuries she attained in the past, during a scuffle in the Parliament. She was later taken to India for medical treatment. The Uganda human Rights Commission has requested for the MP to be released. This is so that she can be taken to India for medical support.
THE CHAIRMAN UHCR
The Chairman, UHRC, Mr. Kaggwa, mentioned that holding Betty Nambooze for more than 48 hours without producing her to the courts of law is a violation of her rights. This was in a letter dated June 21st 2018, copied to the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
“She has been derived of her privacy, as a patient due to the constant interference by police officers with her treatment regime. Most times these police officers are male and they force themselves into her room when she is receiving treatment in total disregard of her gender” He explained.
