President Museveni Commissions the Source of the Nile Bridge
The wait if finally over. The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned the brand new bridge in Jinja this week. The 525 m long bridge was named, “the source of the Nile bridge” and was constructed in 48 months. The president applauded the Japanese governement for their support with funding, a total of 41.1 Billion shillings, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
The construction was also a contribution from both internal and external labor. According to our sources, Museveni shared this particular fact during his speech.
“I have been informed that out of the 760 staff at the peak of construction, 90.5% of Contractors’ staff were; Ugandan Engineers, technicians, craftsmen and laborers. Out of 33 staff of the Supervising Consultant, 67% were Ugandan Engineers and Works Inspectors, 80% of reinforcement steel for high performance concrete was sourced locally in Uganda,” he said.
The Bridge will support trade, and a market, as this route will link the country to the seaport.
