Museveni in closed door meeting and secret talks with the kabaka
A closed door meeting between Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and President Museveni is underway at the king’s palace in Banda, Nakawa Division, Kampala today 5th february 2019. The Agenda of the meeting is still unclear to many.
Kabaka Mutebi is flanked by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Prince David Wasajja, Owek Emmanuel Ssendaula, Owek Ambassador Bill Matovu, former cabinet minister Joyce Mpanga. The attorney general William Byaruhanga, and investment minister Evelyn Anite are also present.
The two principals whose relationship has grown cordial since 2013 when Mayiga took office as the kingdom prime minister are expected to tackle several issues relating to the 2013 memorandum of understanding.
In 2013, President Museveni and the Kabaka signed a memorandum of understanding in which the former agreed to return all kingdom property and so far, about 200 titles have been given to the kingdom, but some districts still complain that they have not yet erected their own premises.
This meeting also comes after a bitter land war between the Kabakas family and former chief justice Benedicto Kiwanuka.
Prince Wassaja accused Kiwanuka for being responsible for facillitating an illegal process that saw president Edward muteesa lose about 600 acres of land in mutungo hill ,Kampala . This is currently occupied by Kampalas wealthy families.
We shall keep you posted of what prevails in the meeting.
