Mr. and Miss Y+ Crowned
The rate of HIV in Uganda has heavily gone down since the 1980s, and right now, we are in a walk towards an HIV free generation. Regardless of this however, stigmatization still remains a challenge in may communities and this could be the main cause of frustration and death among different HIV victims in Uganda.
Uganda Network of people living with HIV hosted the Mr. and Miss Y+ Beauty Pageant on 23rd September 2017. This event was decided upon, with an objective to stress the importance of inner beauty, and choose ambassadors that will help eradicated discrimination and stigmatization of people living with HIV in the country.
According to information from their social media page, the symbol Y+ represents Young people living with HIV , and they held their event at Hotel Africana. The different contestants matched in dinner wear, creative wear, and various gowns and competed to be chosen as a representative.
The Mr and Miss were selected as Nyanzi Huzail & Nagawa Gloria and they won themselves a full years scholarship.
Congratulations to you two, and we are counting on you to fight for the rights of the people living with HIV in Uganda. Visit Uganda Network of People Living with HIV on Facebook for more highlights.
