GNL Zamba, “Stop making fun of the Basoga”
GNL Zamba may be miles away but GNL Zamba is still Ugandan. Last week he posted some great advice for all of you who have been making fun of the Basoga, using silly jokes, examples or phrases. Please read below;
Fellow Ugandans, I am a Muganda by tribe and a Ugandan at heart. There is an issue which I would like to bring to your attention and I believe we should use caution as we proceed through this beautiful life to ensure it is enjoyed equally. There have been so many audio messages distributed through Watsapp and other media; so many jokes have been told that would make me as a human being feel bad if they were directed to my tribe/ethnicity. I am appealing to you to stop making all the jokes about the people of Busoga because what started with laughter is now becoming a trend of bias and discrimination towards the good people of Busoga. As a person who has had a chance to study East of the Nile, I can attest that the stereotypes are not true. The people of Busoga are very intelligent, beautiful, move adoringly well on their feet when they dance and I love the rhythm of their language. They have contributed a lot of distinguished people to the betterment of Uganda as a republic in the disciplines of medicine, Engineering, agriculture and politics. This morning I heard an audio message that made me realize that the jokes have gone too far and it is no longer funny.
Our shinning character as citizens of this great republic fades with the vices of putting down another tribe by making jokes at their expense. If you feel bad about people making jokes about your faith, skin color, tribe or creed just know the people of Busoga feel bad ? too. Every time you perpetuate these jokes that are now distasteful and tribalist I urge you to think twice because it may affect the way a small musoga child is treated by other students rippling from what you might share.
In my humble opinion as a citizen I thought I would share what I feel on my platform incase you were not considering the inhuman factor in that trend.
Byebyo ebyange! (Stay positive ✊???)
Your truly

Thank You GNL for saying things that many are afraid to say.
