Geoffrey Oryema, A Musician From Uganda Dies
The entertainment industry is dark once again, after the loss of another musician, Geoffrey Oryema. This is one of the men, who have broken it in the world of music, through effort, hard work and determination. Oryema became a Global sensation when her released his second album, Beat the Border in 1993. Oryem has performed in various stages around the world, like Berlin, Australia, Russia, Europe and Japan. In 1990, he performed at the Nelson Mandella Concert at Wembley Stadium in the UK.
WHAT KILLED GEOFFERY ORYEMA
Last Friday, Oryema was laid to rest at 65 years old, after battling cancer for a long time. Geoffrey is a son to Erinayo W. Oryema, who was the first African Inspector General of Police in Amin’s cabinet. In 1977, a his father was murdered and Oryema fled to exile, since then. He crossed the borders outside Uganda in a car trunk.
Geoffrey was a creative artist, and his music was in Acholi, Kiswahili, English and French. Many refer to him as a legendary musician. He arrived in Uganda after 40 years in December, to visit his motherland. May his soul rest in peace
