Business in Kampala is normal, even after the heart attacks that crowded the population yesterday. Being a festive season, majority of the citizens are not withing the city center, and some are making enough money for the celebrations. The MPs chosen by their own people, to represent them, have finally spoken and Passed the Age Limit Bill in Parliament.
THE PASSING OF THE AGE LIMIT BILL
From what we know, the bill was passed at around 11pm, when most of the opposition Members of Parliament were absent. The Parliament voted 317 to 107 votes. 2 of them however abstained from the process. This brings the majority who said Yes, as the winners, and renders the removal of the Presidential age limit valid.
The highlights of the voting included; the Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East, Robert Kyagulanyi voting in opposition.
“On behalf of the youth in this country. On behalf of the Ghetto People, I vote NO!” he said.
The August House was however in shock when Hon. Betty Anywar from the opposition, and FDC party stood up and voted Yes. The country considered this as a major form of betrayal.
The team #Togikwatako have fought till the last point, and the people of Uganda have tried to make their voices heard. Unfortunately, they do not have a say in the final decision. The MPs of the different constituencies have spoken for their people.
With the passing of this bill, the current President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who was already been in power for about three decades is still eligible to run for presidency, come the next election.
