Uganda Police Ranked Fourthlast Worldwide
Uganda police has been ranked fourthlast worldwide. We warned them, but they did not listen.
We screamed out loud but they shut their ears. Now the whole world knows. Our dirty linen has been washed in public.
The World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI) report, using a ranking by the International Police Science Association and the Institute for Economics and Peace, revealed that our Ugandan police is one of the worst in the whole of Africa, and the world.
In the report that was issued, Uganda, Kenya and Democratic republic of Congo police were ranked 124th, 125th and 126th respectively.
The country reported with the worst is Nigeria, occupying a position of 127.
Botswana, a country that is known for its political Stability, fairness and democracy, secured a position of 47th in the whole world, making her the country with the best police in Africa.
These rankings were done on the basis of four major points; internal security: capacity, process, legitimacy, and outcomes.
We need to borrow a leaf from our neighbours because, Rwanda, also had a high position of the 50th, in the world and 2nd in Africa.
The top most positions were dominated by mostly European country’s, and the bottom by African countries with weak democracy.
The issue of Police brutality in Uganda has been a topic amongst many this year. Currently, live bullets are now being used in dispersion of crowds. Criminals claim they are thoroughly beaten up, when detained in the various prisons.
There could however be othe reasons as to why we could not make top positio. What do you think could be one of the reasons why ur Uganda Police was ranked in the bottom four?
