Man almost drowns due to Kampala Rains
Yesterday photos circulated on social media, of a car almost being completely submerged in a pool of rainwater.
It came tagged to a little note, asking anyone who had a family member or friend who drives a Toyota Rav4, and informing them that the person was still stuck inside their vehicle, almost drowning, in a trench outside Mild may, Entebbe road.
Thankfully, the police showed up at the scene and rescued the man.
This is not the first Kampala roads, especially Entebbe has gotten flooded. During heavy rains, some vehicles are redirected to other routes, to avoid traffic congestion, and also any catastrophes that may occur.
The city centre is also one not to travel through, after a heavy downpour. Cars are almost submerged, women are being carried across logs of water, and it is a disaster.
In most cases, the trenches get filled up and wash garbage into the city centre. The area remains flooded, as the water takes a long time to dry up hence causing alot of congestion since everyone is trying to make it to their homes as fast as possible.
Some say it is because our drainage systems are narrow, whereas others blame the bad road and poor planning. Whichever one it is, we call upon the concerned Authorities to prevent any deaths that may occur due to something we can totally avoid.
