The Padaung Tribe
We all have different cultures, and various procedures we have to follow, by virtue of belonging to a particular tribe. We respect these virtues, and honor them as they pass from our fore fathers and ancestors. Today we share with you the uniqueness of the Padaung Tribe.
This tribe, has around 10,000 people, and are named after the area in which they live. This tribe is famous for their long necked women. They wear a brightly colored attire, and brass coils around their necks. This, they do as a sign of wealth. The girls are made to choose whether they will wear the rings or not, at the age of six years.
WHY THE WOMEN WEAR THE COILS
According to various sources, there are various myths concerning the origin of the rings. Some say it protects the children from being killed by tigers, which are known to aim for the neck. Others suggest that it started as a tribute to a dragon-mother progenitor. Some also say that the major reason was to prevent tiger attacks. However, the men found the coils sexually attractive, hence required their women to wear them. The women also believe that wearing the coils makes them beautiful.
They are in Thailand, and are commonly known as the Giraffe women. Like all cultures and customs, this is a beautiful one.
