Twitter To Muzzle Cyber Bullies!

If you have been at the receiving end of a KOT (Kenyans On Twitter) backlash we have exciting news for you!Twitter has announced that it will clip the wings of nasty or violent users by unveiling a new anti-abusive policy. This is as a result of offensive and threatening messages directed at high-profile female users.

The micro-blogging site has modified its interface and rolled out a one-click button to report abusive tweets.Twitter has been a platform  where cyber bullies in Kenya have savagely bashed  people most notably the infamous Susan of Tujuane and Linda Nyangweso over her weight.

“We want people to feel safe on Twitter, and we want the Twitter Rules to send a clear message to anyone who thought that such behavior was, or could ever be, acceptable,” wrote Del Harvey, Twitter’s Senior Director for Trust and Safety.

The one click button will enable the users to avoid the cumbersome process of having to go to twitters help center to register complaints. The button will be placed within tweets thus making it easier to report rogue behavior.

General Manager of Twitter, Tony Wang had to say this to people who have been on the receiving end of lurid violent abuse” The abuse they’ve received is simply not acceptable. It’s not acceptable in the real world, and it’s not acceptable on Twitter.”

“There is more we can and will be doing to protect our users against abuse. That is our commitment.” he concluded.
