The recent road accident that has claimed the lives of many Kenyans has caused quite the uproar amongst the citizenry and celbrities alike. and some of our celebrities aren’t taking this lying down. they have unwittingly joined forces with their counterparts to try and force change!

Maina Kageni and King’ang’i have dedicated their show this morning to trying and finding a solution to the road carnage. And they are asking you to get involved. call in with a solution or just tune in to the show and listen to what your fellow Kenyans have to say about all this.

And Nonini earlier today posted this:

Road carnage must be brought to an end NOW. The blame lays squarely on OUR lack of discipline on the road & the Traffic police door step. Coupled by lack of political will from the ruling class is solely to blame. Secondly, the method and system being used to enforce traffic rules is old school and outdated in its entirety. (Kwanza hi story ya spot fines with a road side judge)

Picture this ——-> Police impound a PSV vehicle for un-road worthiness for whatever reason, be it lack of governors or overloading, then they take the driver or owner to court where they get fined and get released. This doesnt remedy the initial un-road worthiness!!!! No action is taken to rectify other than fine the culprits!! The govt is eager to collect court fines than enforce traffic rules.

The first step that the GOVT should do in taming this carnage is to digitalize all driver’s licenses and create a data base for all license holders. This will help in keeping track of traffic offenders and banning them from the road for a certain period of time or for life.

In the west when you do even minor traffic offenses let alone a road accident. They have a points system in which your license can be suspended and if serious enough you can face jail time as well.

Secondly and most importantly, they should increase police pay and salaries with immediate effect, this will make them cops immune to bribery.

Traffic cops in Majuu earn a six figure salary!!. Heads should roll.
