Top 5 Comedians Who Joined Radio And Made It Big…No.3 Is A Lady Who Has Defied All Odds

Today radio remains the media channel with the most reach the world over. Almost every household owns a radio and this makes it easier to reach to every soul for communication. With the invention of gadgets with in-built radios, it is even easier to communicate to a wider audience than any other channel of communication.

But these days radio is not radio without a comedian behind. This is evident in the manner in which every radio station is on the run to have one or more comedians in their daily programs because they want to gain that very important traction and beat competition from their competitors.

And as radios are on the run to meet this basic yet important requirement, we delve into the top 5 comedians who have joined radio and perfectly fitted, making it even better and sweeter to listen to.

Churchill – Classic 105 as Mwalimu King’angi

Churchill is known in every corner of the republic as one of the finest comedians who has given others a platform to learn from and built their careers. Having grown up as Kryptomaniacs’s protégé, Churchill learnt a lot from veterans Nyambane and his company, and perhaps this explains why he started his own Churchill show where other comedians entertain audiences every Sunday on NTV.

His prowess as comedian saw him land a job with Classic 105 as a co-host to the ever effective Maina Kageni and has never disappointed in his every morning jokes. Sometimes Churchill does it to an extent that we feel he is meant for radio and not hic comedy on TV. Churchill is arguably the best comedian Kenya has ever produced. Eric Omondi and company know this too well.

Jalang’o – Radio Maisha

jalango

He is turning 32 today and before we say anything about him, let us say a HBD message to the man from Siaya.

Well, at 32, Jalang’o sounds younger and younger on radio, the same way he looks on screen. A comedian who first came to the limelight when he teamed up with his partners in crime Otoyo and Wilbroda on the famous Papa Shirandula show on Citizen TV, Jalang’o turned out to be among the top comedians and thespians in Kenya to date. He wowed the audiences with his skill and this landed him a job with Kiss 100.

It was here that he excelled so well that he would later move to Radio Maisha where he has continued to do exceptionally well. His show with Alex Mwakideu gives him an edge over some comedians and puts him on par with celebrated thespians on the land. Jalang’o is a good comedian on radio.

Wilbroda – Radio Citizen

wilbroda

Famously known as Shirandula’s husband, Wilbroda is arguably the only female comedian and actress standing today as the most successful in this industry. She has been ever there in the social satirical show Papa shirandula where she plays a crucial role.

Even though the likes of Jalas and Otoyo who complemented her so well have since quitted the show, Wilbroda is strong and forging forward.

On Radio Citizen she is even better. She excels alongside Fancis Luchivia and Mwala and their morning show, Jambo Kenya, on radio citizen tells it all. She is an iron lady and a force to reckon with. Her prowess has seen her dine with the mighty.

Cleophas Awinja – Milele FM

awinja

Also famously known for his role as Otoyo in Papa Shirandula, Awinja curved a niche for himself and sold out a wonderful name to the masses as one of the finest entertainers in Kenya today.

Since his days at Papa Shirandula and Q FM, Awinja has been effective and entertaining. He always complemented his co-host Massawe Jappani at Q FM and when the latter moved to Milele FM, many thought we couldn’t hear the pair together again.

But Otoyo followed the way and joined Milele where he has continued to excel very well. He is entertaining and funny.

MC Jessy – Hot 96

jessy

He is very well known because of his synonymy with the Churchill Raw and Show. On this platform, he has been known to do very well and attract a sizeable following.

His time at Hot 96 has not gone to drains either. He is entertaining and funny as ever. MC Jessy perfectly fits radio and this is his place.
