This Week on Young Rich: From Boda Boda Rider to Estate Owner Worth 250 Million!
They say if you can dream it you can definitely live it. And that, is the story of a group of boda boda riders in Kitengela.
Founded in 2009 as a self-help group, KITEMOTO (Kitengela Motocylers), the group started small literally. With a collection of only 100bob daily from each of its members, the cash assisted them in acquiring motorcycles, tuk tuks and even cars for cab services. With a loan facility in place, the group would loan out cash at an interest to members of the public earning them a few extra coins.
In 2011, the group purchased 5 acres of land at 3million each and started putting up houses for members. In total, there are 100 units for members which are worth Ksh700,000 each. They have another 24 units for commercial purposes which are meant for sale at 4.7 million which translates to around 112 million.
The proceeds from the sale of the 24 units will go towards settling the loans owed by the group’s members; with each member receiving KSh300,000 debt relief of the Ksh700,000 they owe the company.
Here’s their success story;
