This Governor Laughs All Way To The Bank As He Is Set To Earn 1 Billion Kenyan Shillings
A governor is set to pocket a cool 1 billion shillings from the government coffers.
Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua will be smiling all the way to the bank after the NLC went ahead to gazette its decision to buy a piece land following a ruling by the Environment and Land Court which had ruled that the NLC should offer compensation for acquiring the land set to be used in the construction of the Southern Bypass.
This dismissed a claim by the NLC that the land had been built on road reserves. The land, owned under the Vipingo Beach resort company measures 1.2 acres and has 80 apartments on it. The governor owns 89.94 of the land which in 2012 had been valued at 800 million.
The current valuation of 1 billion will be the highest payout for compensation to an individual. Well, it will be the first time a governor is associated with huge sums of money that have not been obtained unscrupulously from county coffers.
