Suspected love triangle incident leads to main campus closure

The Maasai Mara University has been closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage following the beating up of a colleague in a suspected love triangle incident.
The students brought businesses to a standstill along the Narok-Bomet road after they barricaded the busy highway after one of them was severely beaten and injured by operators on suspicion of having an affair with one of the riders’ wife.
The student is currently nursing injuries sustained in the incident and is admitted at the Narok County Referral Hospital.
Police had a tough time quelling the irate students and made several arrests which included operators who were involved in the beating up of the student.
Through an internal memo signed by the Registrar of Academic Affairs Dr Fredrick Onyango and dated November 17, 2016, the university announced the immediate closure of the campus indefinitely.

However, all the other campuses which mainly comprises of self-sponsored students as well as school-based programmes has not been affected and will remain operational.
Cases of love triangle incidents gone sour involving university students have been on the rise.
In April, the body of a 22-year-old female student from the same university was found in her rented apartment in Manyatta Estate following a suspected love triangle incident.
Preliminary findings by the police showed that she was raped and killed by her lover following an affair with another man.
In March this year, a fourth year male student stabbed and killed his colleague after finding his lover in a room with another colleague at Moi University.
