“Some of the demonstrators exude a lot of happiness when they are tear-gassed!”Luo Police Officer Defends Shooting Of Protesters In Siaya

The recent IEBC protests have brought back the memories and the idea of police brutality.

The images of people being battered and the use of live bullets have made even the envoys and the foreign news agencies focus on the police reactions. This morning the police spokesman Charles Owino has come to defend the police having earlier said the police will not apologize for their actions.

The spokesman in a morning interview at Citizen’s Cheche said, “Some of the demonstrators exude a lot of happiness when they are tear-gassed!” he said. The police spokesman had great issue with the looters who even after crowds have been dispersed turn back to battle with the police.

Owino stated that the police have no way to disperse rioters who still persist despite efforts like tear gassing and instead engage the police in a war by throwing stones at them and destroying property putting other people at risk. He also denied reports that police target Kibera thus as KNHC’s Kegoro put it ‘taking riots to people’s homes.

Instead the police spokesman said the public should not for a moment think the police will not use their weapons when their life is at risk or are facing violent protesters.
