Social Media Queen Drugged and Strangled By Brother Over Raunchy Pictures and For Bringing Shame to the Family (Photos)

“I am proud of what I did. I drugged her first and then I killed her. She was bringing dishonor to our family.” Are the chilling words uttered in a confession video by the brother of a slain social media star.

Waseem Baloch murdered his sister Qandeel Baloch by strangling her at their family home in the city of Multan in Punjab Province in Pakistani for the “kind of pictures she had been posting online.”

The pictures which are normal by international standards caused hostile emotional responses from members of the deeply conservative Muslim country and she often received death threats and abuse with people telling her to preserve her modesty.

A selfie taken with a Muslim cleric Mufti Qavi during Ramadan is said to have driven her brother over the edge and that is when he decided to kill her. Apparently due to the controversy the picture elicited, Qavi was suspended from Ruet-i-Hilal Committee and National Ulema Mushaikh Council, religious bodies in Pakistan.

“I planned this after her scandal with the Mufti and was waiting for the right time.” he said.

Speaking to Pakistan’s Geo News, Qandeel’s mum said that Waseem was egged on by the Muslim cleric to carry out the ‘honor killing ‘.

Her death has been met with varied reactions online with some saying if she behaved appropriately, she would be alive and others including Theresa May condemning this senseless killing.
