Shuga Radio Set to Premiere Today, with HBR’s G-Money Set to Host Shows
After a successful first season run in 2009, Shuga: Love Sex and Money came back to television screens this year for a spectacular and extended showing of six new episodes which had audiences around the globe captivated to the newly introduced characters.
Now there’s a new offering from MTV – Shuga Radio, an exciting 12 episode radio drama, set to premiere on 27th June 2012, which will follow the life of a 19 year old girl named Sofia in a similarly well told story of how the characters will handle choices, challenges and relationships in a world with HIV and AIDS.
Issues which are expected to be covered in the drama include rape, transactional sex, and condom use with additional magazine shows hosted by HBR 103.5’s G-Money which will discuss the issues in the drama in more detail with young people as well as with the help of health experts from across Africa
The scripting of the radio drama series was interestingly done by a group of young people from around the continent including Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Cameroon at a Shuga Radio workshop earlier in January this year. Select radio broadcasters across these 6 countries will be airing the series in French, English and Swahili. The full list of radio stations to air the series will be announced later.
