Samsung ‘Ziki’ Star Winner Releases debut single Produced by Wyre and J Blessing

Malawian gospel artiste Daniel Chikwaza has released his debut single titled “I can’t believe it,” becoming the latest entrant in Kenya’s rapidly expanding gospel music industry.  The release of the single – produced by Wyre at his Lovechild Records – attests to the tremendous growth of music genre, as more artistes use the platform to deliver the gospel.

Chikwaza, who is also a third year Communications student at Daystar University, won the second edition of the talent search competition, Samsung Ziki Stars last year. His win entitled him to a fully sponsored production of a single and one video by Samsung Electronics East Africa.

The competition’s first winner was Lyra Aoko, who has gone on to produce songs like ‘Happy’, a collaboration with Wyre, as well as featuring in songs by Nick Mutuma and Collo.

The second edition targeted university students with auditions held in Kenyatta University, USIU and Daystar University.

Chikwaza says that the song is a manifestation of God’s amazing love in his life.

“With this song and more to come, I hope to touch the lives of many and spread hope and the gospel of Christ to all corners of the world,” he adds.

Chikwaza plans to showcase his versatility by cutting across different music genres, and says he will be alternating from house, soft rock and Afro, so as to appeal to different audiences. For his debut single, he has chosen to go with house, a genre that is quickly gaining popularity in the country.

The video has been produced by one of Kenya’s celebrated video production talents, J Blessing.

The Samsung Ziki Star is a music platform by Samsung Electronics East Africa that is aimed at discovering raw singing talent and ultimately crowns a winner, helping them make a mark in the music industry through the production of a single & music video, as well as mentorship from well-known musicians.
