Sack corrupt state officers or resign, civil society tells Uhuru

The civil society led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack state and public officers adversely mentioned in corruption scandals or resign from office.
The commission argued that the president was in full knowledge that most of those implicated in corruption scandals that have rocked the country are senior officials within his government.
The KHRC said a significant number of these officials, were in the executive and by this virtue, the president had the powers to relieve them off their duties without reference to any authority.
the letter signed by KHRC, Transparency International, Inter-Religious Council of Kenya and several other civil society groups read in part.

The groups said they were deeply alarmed by the worrying escalation of mega corruption scandals currently rocking the country with no action being taken on the known perpetrators.
They termed the recent declaration by Uhuru during the recent anti-corruption summit that his office had done all it could to fight the vice and that the failure to stem graft was due to inaction by independent offices was indeed an admission of failure on the part of the presidency.
