Jabu Hlongwane: We thank God for allowing us to walk with her

Joyous Celebration founder Jabu Hlongwane was among the last to pay tribute to Siyasanga Kobese. This was during the memorial service that was held yesterday afternoon. His speech evoked bittersweet emotions among mourners.

He started by talking of how Siyasanga came for the auditions having quit her job and was dressed in overalls. They had no option but to hire her.

“She came dressed in overalls‚ but that was Siyasanga. Then we decided to put her on stage that very same night.”

For Jabu, there was potential for Siyasanga to flourish even more than she already had.

“It feels like she stayed longer at Joyous than she ever did. We thank God for allowing us to walk with her. There was a potential for her to flourish even more but we are grateful to have known her.

“This memorial service is exactly what she would have loved because it represents the colorful array of friendships she developed from her acting career and music career.

“I don’t know how it happened that she would pass on with friends that she was so close with like Akhumzi. It’s like they planned it because they were this madness when they were still alive and they died together.”

Jabu was grateful to God for having been given the chance to work with Siyasanga.

Siyasanga died in a road accident that claimed the lives of not only her, but others, including Akhumzi Jezile. She is set to be buried this week.

Family and friends gather to celebrate Siyasanga Kobese’s life

Mourners gathered this afternoon to celebrate the life of the late Siyasanga Kobese.

The stage is full with pictures of her and flowers that represented the personality she had.

Although Siyasanga’s family could not travel all the way to be at the memorial, a family representative had been sent. This was her uncle, Anele Nogqala.

In his speech, he talked of how proud they were of Siyasanga’s accomplishments.

“Siya didn’t embarrass us as a family, instead we are proud of her and we don’t blame God for what has happened,” he said.
Others expected to pay tribute to her include Joyous Celebration founder Jabu Hlongwane.

Siyasanga Kobese killed in same accident as Thobani Mseleni

Singer Siyasanga Kobese and acctor Thobani Mseleni were among those killed in a car crash that claimed the lives of five people. Their families have confirmed. Among the five, was YoTV presenter Akhumzi Jezile.

The other two names have not been confirmed as their families have not been informed.

A culpable homicide case has now been opened. There was a head-on collision on the N6 near Queenstown. People in the other car escaped unhurt.

“I went to the scene yesterday but I couldn’t stay there for an hour. It was bad. All of them had injuries on their heads. All of them. I saw my daughter’s feet. She is my child. I recognized her by her feet. This is bad. This is bad‚” said Pastor Norman Kobese about his daughter Siyasanga.

“She was a good girl. As soon as she got money she would send it to us. She looked after us. She was a hard-worker. I spoke to her on Friday night and she said she was going to stop by us to say hello on her way to work. But she never made it‚” he added.

Thobani Mseleni

Thobani Mseleni’s family have been devastated by his death.

“It’s very difficult. Thobani and I stayed together. It was very fast. He was fetching clothes on Thursday because he was going to be travelling. He said he would be back on Sunday or Monday. When we got the call we didn’t know if he had died. He was on his way to a wedding and when we phoned the uncle he said everyone in the car died. His mother is devastated. She can’t even speak.”

Their deaths have left the country shocked to the core. Tributes continue to pour in to their families.
