Recap on the Metro Fm Drama
As 2017 draws to an end it’s easy to forget about all the the shock changes made at Metro FM and the drama it caused.
We all know the deal by now: Come April, contracts are renewed and that means some people get the boot and others get to stay.
This year started off with a bang after Bonang Matheba left her show after being told that she would share the mic next to Lerato Kganyago.
Bonang said she was only told an hour before her show that she would have a new co-host in the form of Lerato Kganyago.
“I will miss my Metro FM family dearly, as they say all good things do come to an end….Looking forward to the next chapter of my radio life. My heart is broken. I was told about the changes to my show an hour before going on air today,” Bonang tweeted.
But as TshisaLIVE exclusively revealed, the SABC requested meetings with Bonang about the changes days before her show, with the presenter either not responding or failing to pitch up to agreed times. Proof of this was detailed in WhatsApp messages given exclusively to TshisaLIVE.
Within a day Lerato Kganyago and Dineo Ranaka took over the slot.
Other moves saw Unathi Msengana and Glen Lewis leave. In turn, DJ Fresh and Somizi got the breakfast slow.
Khanyi Mbau and Ntombi Ngcobo-Mzolo, who previously hosted a different slot with Somizi, were moved to different shows.
DJ SPHEctacula and DJ Naves also left the station after seven years.
Although there wasn’t much drama in any of these additions, Robert Marawa caused a stir after he was fired without even knowing.
His producer was suspended and Robert didn’t agree with the decision so he wasn’t on air until the matter was sorted out.
