Musician Dan Tshanda Dies
Dan Tshanda is dead. In a statement released by his family spokesperson, he died on Saturday night of heart failure.
“Dalom Music is hereby confirming the passing away of music maestro Dan Tshanda today. He suffered a heart failure earlier and Sandton Mediclinic where he was declared dead,[sic]” the statement read in part.
He was born in Venda and grew up in Soweto. He started out as a newspaper vendor and a taxi driver before moving to pursue a career in music.
Dan was part of the group Splash, with their first album Peacock, making a huge success.
He had been making a living through disco and pop music since the mid-80s. He made music in his vernacular Venda at a time when few others did the same.
His Facebook post on Christmas Eve talked of his promise to fans that 2019 will bring both change and exciting new ventures.
Memorial and funeral details are yet to be announced by the family.
