Fans confront Nomcebo Gumede over her acting character
Acting comes with its ups and downs too, and for Uzalo star Nomcebo Gumede, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Because of her role as Mumsy who happens to be an annoying character, the soap’s fans have confronted her many times.
Mumsy is quite a mouthful. She is a pastor’s daughter, who is dating the biggest thug, Mastermind. On top of that, she is a troublemaker and an unruly and fearless woman.
While confronting her, fans even tell her she is not the right woman for Mastermind.
“Just before the episode of Mumsy partying aired, I was confronted by a woman who said I looked like the ugly Mumsy. She said she hated Mumsy for having tattoos on the whole body, and that she was misbehaving while she is a pastor’s child,” Gumede said of one of the confrontations.
Another confrontation happened at a shop when the teller and some customers accused her of playing with Mastermind’s feelings.
“This time things got serious. I tried to explain that Mumsy was only a character. I called the store manager to help but people were not taking me seriously.
“I still cannot believe that there are people who think that what they see on television is true. I find it funny that they say I am ugly and playing with his feelings.”
In the soap, if Mumsy is not hosting night parties at the pastor’s house, she is two-timing her boyfriend.
Mumsy’s character was introduced to test the public’s reaction to a woman being a player.
“When a man has many girlfiends he is hailed as a hero. But when a woman does the same, she is labelled as a whore or isifebe. This shows how society is judgemental towards women and the treatment they get.”
Although Gumede is new on television, she has eperience in theatre, and also wrote the one woman show, Trapped.
