Two of the late Kwaito singer Sphiwe ‘Brown Dash’ baby mamas have come out complaining that they have not received any money from the Brown Dash tribute concert that was held in Soweto, last year. They claim that a third woman however benefited.

This comes as another concert is scheduled for the end of this month.

Organizer Mahlomola Kekana said that last year’s concert did not make money due to postponements of the show and organizers had to use Computicket to refund those who had purchased the tickets. He said he contributed R29000 to one of Brown Dash’s three children, who was at home due to lack of money to go to college.

The concerts are held to help in paying for the children’s education. Kekana said: “It’s true we paid fees of his child who is in college because last year he was sitting at home due to lack of money. The truth is that we are doing this to assist in paying for the kids’ education, nothing else.”

The baby mamas further accused Kekana of sidelining them and not being transparent. “We got to learn about this year’s event on Facebook unlike last year when we were involved. The issue is that the event is staged to help Dash’s kids. Even sponsors came in because they want to help his kids,” they both said in a statement.  The women said their issue was that Kekana did not want to put everything on paper.

The kwaito star died in 2012 at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto.
