The late Vuyo Mokoena to be honored in tribute performance
It is now a decade since gospel musician Vuyo Mokoena died. He succumbed to brain tumor on the 23rd of May, 2008.
Not only was he an award winning artist, but he was also a fashion trendsetter.
In marking 10 years since Vuyo’s demise therefore, a tribute will be paid in honor of him. This will be at the annual All White Gospel Picnic, with performances from Kholeka and Sipho Ngwenya, together with the live band that used to perform with the late Vuyo.
It will also serve as an opportunity for Kholeka and Sipho to launch their new lifetime achievement award.
“We are grateful that there are people who want to celebrate Vuyo,” Tebogo Mokoena, his widow, said in a statement.
“Music nourished his soul and he would be extremely proud to hear two remarkable artists like Kholeka and Sipho performing some of his greatest hits. I am a fan of their music and I know they will amaze fans with the tribute to Vuyo.”
Other artists set to perform include Lebo Sekgobela, Mahalia Buchanan, Khaya Mthethwa and Abathandwa.
The event is set to take place at the Carnival City Festival Lawns, on the 24th of November.
