Rabbit Embroiled in Song Jacking Drama. Did He Steal One of the Songs off His Much Hyped Album?

It’s not only disappointing but also embarrassing (on the artist’s part) when you learn that an artist has stolen a section of a song or the entire song and gets rich off of it!While it may be argued that all great artists get their inspiration from other great artists, lyrist Rabbit is one of the many who is being accused of taking too much.

His most recent crime – allegedly stealing a track produced by the industrious Wawesh Mjanja – is only one of a handful of incidents in which the “Ligi Soo” singer has encountered plagiarism claims. The song in question is off his album, “Before The Success| Success Begins Now”, which will be the FIRST ever double disc in Kenya.

The track in contention, “Bado Nakupenda” was allegedly jacked from a popular back in the day band, ‘Safari Sound Band’ that ruled in the 80’s. The guy who claims to be the famous band’s agent has in fact filed a case at the Nairobi Law Courts and the hearing is next week and there are high chances that the prosecutor may stop the launch of the so-much hyped album scheduled for 20th December.

On his part, Rabbit says the albums are ready for distribution following successful recording and print of the covers. In his defense, Rabbit says he got permission from one of the original band members and that’s when he decided to record the track.

For now, Rabbit is going ahead with the album launch at Louis Leakey, Museum Hill in 10 days’ time at a limited-ticket event.

Rabbit is now the latest entry on the long list of popular musical acts whose originality has previously been called into question.

Do you think Rabbit will emerge victorious following the copyright-infringement claims?
