Popular Female Musician Narrates How She Narrowly Escaped Death at Westgate Mall

Annette Kawira, an upcoming musician popular for her song Pole Pole alongside ‘Genge’ godfather, Nonini, is still shaken after coming face-to-face with the Westgate Mall attackers on Saturday morning.

The singer was at the upscale shopping mall’s Art Caffe when the attackers stormed in and randomly started shooting in all directions. Here’s Annete’s recollection;

Today was an ordinary day. I woke up got ready for work and left the house. Mum had just arrived from Tanzania and had presents for me. I told her I was late and I will look at the presents when I get back home. Kissed my baby bro and left the house for Westgate. My client Chris Wen was on time as always and we had a cafe Latte at Art Caffe. He left after we were done and I continued with my duties.

At around Midday the lights started flickering so when I heard the first shot, I thought it was the transformer. Next thing I see a man infront of me drop dead Then it hit me,things ARE BAD. Then the Blood birth began.The only thought I has was MY FAMILY.As I trembled in a store in Nakumatt MY MUM is all I thought about. As the air filled with gunshots I was thinking about what THEY would write on my obituary.

Unfortunately, Annette’s colleague was injured during the attack and underwent surgery on Sunday.

For now, she’s praying for the innocent people who are still held hostage in the ill-fated mall.
