“Police Were Under Pressure To Have Me Locked Up.” EX NTV Investigative Reporter Opens Up About His Unwarranted Arrest
He was arrested by some 13 CID officers and taken to Muthaiga Police Station in a convey of four SUVs. Such kind of rare ‘privilege’ is only accorded to hardcore criminals and not a respected journalist.
Many could smell malice judging from the way Yassin Juma was arrested by a contingent of plain cloth police at his at his house in Donholm.
Yassin Juma was among many bloggers who were arrested when Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery ordered a crackdown on keyboard warriors considered to be errant.
In his recent post, Yassin Juma explained what transpired on that fateful day. He claims the police were under intense pressure from Interior Ministry to have him locked up based on hearsay.
Yassin refuted claims he had gone into hiding to avoid fresh arrest. He says he will never run and if death comes he will confront it head-on.
Below is what he posted:
“This is to inform the public that I have not gone into exile as suggested by some blogs. Yes I have been threatened (together with my family) in the past and it still continues from people who think I have a lot of information that should not be relayed to the public. I will continue to do what I do right here in 254 na wale wanashida itabidi wajifunze kuishi na mimi hivo hivo as long as I operate within the ethics of the profession as an Investigative Journalist. I will make it clear here on a past issue ….in my last arrest the police were under pressure from Interior Ministry to have me locked up only to find out that the information given to them was based on heresay and there were no photos of our dead soldiers as peddled by “watu wa Mkono” wa serikali so called digital what? and Interior Ministry communications office. It was an embarrassment to them that they found nothing on me and a waste of tax payers hard earned money to send 13 CID officers and four 4×4 vehicles to have me arrested out of heresay and intimidation and not facts. Kifo ni Mara moja….I fear the Creator not the Creature …..ile siku nimeandikiwa ikifika imefika …there is no two ways about it….Meanwhile I am very much in 254 itabidi tubanane hapa hapa”
