NMG’s Group Editorial Director Retiring in July After 20 Years

After 20 years at the helm of Nation Media Group, Nation Media Group’s Editorial Director, Joseph Odindo is set to retire next month.

Odindo assumed the position in 2008, replacing Wangethi Mwangi, who was his boss when he was the Group Managing Editor for 4 years; between January 2005

During his tenure as NMG’s Group Editorial Director, Odindo;

1) Halted many years’ circulation decline of Taifa Leo
2) Oversaw rejuvenation and return to circulation growth of the Group’s Uganda paper, The Monitor and Tanzanian title, The Citizen
3) Helped to steer NMG’s launch into Rwanda with a radio station and Rwanda edition of The EastAfrican
4) Implemented print-digital convergence of Nation newsroom
5) Helped to establish Media Council of Kenya, serving on pioneer board
6) Part of team which created Nation Media lab, an in-house training programme for journalists

NMG’s CEO, Linus Gitahi, had kind words for Odindo as he prepares to leave the media house.

“Joe has been a dedicated servant of Nation Media Group and has played a key role in expanding our vision of telling Africa’s stories. We are sad to see him go and he will be greatly missed. He has built a strong foundation on which we shall continue to build our journalism,” Gitahi said.
