“I’m the Only Rapper in Nigeria Now- Young6ix

Nigerian rapper, Young6ix, has described himself as the only singer doing rap in the country right now. According to him, there is no other person doing rap in the country at the moment.

This was in an interview with Hip TV, where he spoke on his kind of music, among other things. Stating that 50 Cents, Kanye West, Jay Z and Lil’ Wayne are the singers that inspire him, he said no other singer is doing modern day rap in Nigeria.

Young6ix says people leave those from the South-South out, in the industry.

Speaking about his challenges, the rapper says being from the South-South is the most challenging thing for him. According to him, those from the region are marginalized in the industry. They are even left out during awards, he said.

I am the only rapper in the country right now,

I can’t see anybody doing modern day rap music apart from myself. It’s just the truth. It’s just the fact. They don’t do it like I do it.

About his challenges, he said:

Coming from south-south Nigeria has been the most challenging stuff because when people want to do anything, they keep the south-south out of it,

When they want to give awards, they keep us out of it. First of all, which other rapper from south-south has been doing this for the past ten years?

I had a chance because I came into the industry under the right record label.

On the influence of Afrobeats, he said:

When we started, the industry was not on this level. We are past the point where Afrobeats is so big. We are about to conquer the world.

On whether he is in a relationship, the rapper said it depends on his location. Sometimes he wakes up single, he said.

Music is a selfish career, very, very selfish, he added.
