It appears policy making and the structure of his manifesto might be Mike Sonko’s greatest undoing in his quest to be the next Nairobi Governor.

It has taken five years of ding a balancing act, trial and error, ruffling feathers and donating to every need and cause in the city to have build Sonko’s credibility as the next governor of Nairobi.

Long dismissed as unschooled unproven and lacking the necessary management aptitude to efficiently run the city, his actions and mostly populist actions especially at the grassroots have built him into one formidable foe with a support cutting across all the political divide. The rather dismal performance of the incumbent governor Dr. Evans Kidero has also lent credence to Sonko’s claims that all experience and academic titles amount to nothing if someone does not have the wishes of the masses at heart. 

in terms of sheer popularity, you will be hard pressed to find a more popular politician in the Capital and for a moment everyone seemed to have forgotten his managerial skills until when in an interview on TV the Senator when answering what he will do with the traffic congestion in the city he said he will turn Uhuru Park into a bus terminal for buses from Eastlands. This one point has placed him in clash with virtually everyone including staunch supporters. It has also opened him up for ridicule and criticism from his critics who point out he lacks in visionary goals for the city based on sound research and backed with facts.
