My Story: Baba Dogo Landladies Are The Worst. Mine Hired My Own Friends To Evict Me #Chapaamkononi #MakeItHappen
Some say dealing with landlords is better than landladies. I discovered that when an ugly incident happened to me a fortnight ago.
Living in middle class lower neighborhood of Baba Dogo is interesting. Here liquid cash is everything as we haven’t fully embraced online transactions.
So I was late on rent but since I had the cash at my bank I wasn’t in a hurry to look for Mama Joy to give her the 7,500 for my self-contained single room on the 4th floor of White House apartment building (Our White House is noting close to official residence of American President.)
On that fateful Saturday, I was just from taking a bath when I met Mama Joy standing with my neighborhood friends on my door.
“Leo kama hunipii pesa hawa marafikizi zako ndo watabeba vitu zako tukipele auction.” The fuming landlady told me.
I told her I had the money in my account at Co-operative Bank and that I was to withdraw it and hand the cash to her.
“Tarehe kumi na mbili bado hujalipa rent na ati uko na pesa kwa bank? Ingia beba TV twende huyu anacheza na mimi.” The vexed landlady instructed by friend.
The thing is, in our hood your friends will not know you when money is involved, anyone can buy loyalty with cash. As cheap as 500 is enough to hire ‘bouncers’.
The mention of my TV made me remember about MCo-op Cash, an application by Co-operative Bank that allows you to transfer cash from bank account to M-Pesa.
So I explained to her to lend me 5 minutes to transfer the cash from my bank account to my M-Pesa. I quickly took my phone from the house, opened the MCo-op Cash app, logged in, then selected the ‘MOBILE MONEY’ option followed by ‘M-PESA’ and transferred the money to my M-Pesa account.
Since Mama Joy demanded that I send her the rent plus the money charged for withdrawing the cash, I opted to go the M-Pesa agent on my own and get her the money because ‘alikua amenifika kwa koo’
Were it not for MCo-op Cash, my flat screen would have been auctioned. Click the link below to see other amazing things that MCo-op Cash can do for you.
