Mututho Makes Complete Turnabout; Now Says You Don’t Need Permit to Throw a House Party
Last week Kenyans were jittery when ‘pint czar’, John Mututho, announced that you will need a permit to throw a bash in your house for your pals. Yesterday however, the NACADA boss made a complete turnaround saying that you no longer need a permit to guzzle booze with your friends at your place.
Mututho set the record straight stating that you don’t need to buy alcohol licenses if you are holding a party at home. Speaking to NTV, he asserted that those seeking to hold parties in their homes need not seek licenses.
The licenses only apply to those intending to sell alcohol in such gatherings, and outside of their licensed premises.
“All it says basically is that if you’re planning to home party and planning to sell alcohol, the word is sell…the magic word is sell. And you’re an outside caterer, you’re an individual or an organization, you need a temporary license,” clarified Mututho.
A temporary or occasional alcoholic drink licence per day costs 1000 bob. Here’s a copy of the permit.
You can now toast to that and go ahead throw the biggest bash this Christmas.
