Meet the One Artiste who has Given Taarab Swag

For a very long time now Taarab sound has been one of the most distinctive genres of music linked to the rich Swahili culture from the Coast.

But now there’s a new artist that is changing the face of a music genre that rose to prominence in 1928 with the advent of the genre’s first star, Siti binti Saad. Mario Lugarno has fused the soothing sound of taarab with a local rap genre and proved that anything is possible in music.

He just released a new video, Kuna Vile, and even though it’s still amateurish, this guy has potential.
