MCSK Top Brass Determined to Fight For Artists’ Royalties

MCSK is the society charged with safeguarding the interests of the Kenyan performing artists through the collection of royalties and fighting piracy. They have lived up to that mandate in a spectacular manner, a fact that is evident with the recent release of the list of the top earning artists (royalties).

Now that the formal introductions to the topic are done and dusted, let’s get to the juicier morsels of the story. As fate would have it, MCSK decided to launch their new initiative Usikatsie Ngoma in Mombasa. And it was quite the event. The entire affair was well thought through as information and education and entertainment were all rolled into one and Coastal artists were brought upto speed on the evolving landscape in terms of music.

The thing I liked ;about the enter affair is the fact that they ALL took it seriously from the CEO down.

 

MCSK undertook licensing of radio stations to raise royalties for their members: musicians. And the entire entertainment fraternity in Mombasa was well represented:
