Lupita Cooks And Gets The World Going Crazy About Kenyan Cuisine
I have always been of the opinion that Kenyan food is bland. I wouldn’t expect anyone who has only traveled from Nairobi to Nyeri and Mombasa to understand what I mean. Only those who aren’t “local” can relate.
I am however beginning to reconsider my opinion about Kenyan food. Nope. that would be a lie. Uncle Chim Tuna makes no apologies. Then again, I have found that when village girls cook, their is a marked difference from the bland froth Nairobi girls think is food.
Away from that. i recently came across a blog that was set up in appreciation of food from all over the world and I found a nice piece it had done about Lupita and Kenyan cuisine.
It also brought back memories of a Lupita Nyong’o interview I watched where she was teaching the host about Sukuma Wiki a.k.a Kale. Anyway, check out the introductory part of what the blog had to say below:
“To hear her Lupita’s first name some may recognize it’s Spanish origin and that her last name Nyongo denotes her African heritage. Currently, the12 Years a Slave star is one of Hollywood’s “It girls.” Nyong’o was born in Mexico City, Mexico where her family were political refugees. It is traditional to name a child after the events of the day, so her parents decided to give her a Mexican first name. She is the second of six children.”
