Literary Icon and Author Of The Concubine Elechi Amadi Dies In Hospital

This morning Africa woke up to the sad news of the passing of another African literary giant Elechi Amadi. The icon died at Good Heart hospital in Port Harcourt at 82 years of age.

He passed on at 3:45pm yesterday. The writer is famed worldwide for his novel The Concubine. His other works include The Great Ponds, Isiburu, Sunset in Biafra, Dance of Johannesburg, Peppersoup, The Road to Ibadan, The Slave, Estrangement and the Woman of Calaber.

The author was  born in 12th May 1934 in Aluu Community and also served as a soldier in the 3rd Marine Commandos of Nigerian Army. He attended Government college , Umuahia and went to the University college, Ibadan where he bagged a BSc. Degree in Physics and Mathematics.

The Concubine will always be a favorite for many filled with the lyricism, traditional life and proverbs. We extend our condolences to his family, his associates and all who knew and enjoyed his work.
