Kwani Kenya Is Cursed!! Now 4 Dope Kenyan Inspired Movies Have Been Shot In South Africa. The Latest One Is a 2016 Thriller
Kenya is losing the battle in making the country an attractive filming location for international film producers!
Hollywood and British film producers are giving Kenya the cold shoulder as they search for alternative African countries as ideal spot to shoot African inspired movies.
Recently Kenyans were ranting after news emerged that a movie based on the life of Richard Leakey in Turkana and another one on the Westgate siege were going to be shot in South Africa.
The movie based on the life of Richard Leakey is starred by Brad Pitt and produced and directed by Angelina Jolie while the Westgate film is starred by actress Hilary Swank.
But the two aren’t the only Kenyan inspired movies to be shot out of Kenya; 1996 blockbuster ‘The Ghost and the Darkness’ which was about man-eating lions of the Tsavo was shot at the Songimvelo Game Reserve in South Africa. Many of the Maasai characters who starred in the movie were just South African actors in costumes.
As if that’s not enough, British thriller film ‘Eye in the Sky’ which is about a drone strike on a terrorist cell in Nairobi, was shot South Africa.
The movie was released on March 11th 2016 and it is still being shown in cinemas around the world. What’s scaring international film makers from shooting Kenyan inspired movies in Kenya???
