Kenyans Asked To Stop Consoling Mama Kayai Over Mzee Ojwang’s Death

The late Mzee Ojwang’s family is requesting Kenyans to stop consoling Mama Kayai by assuming she is the real wife to the late comedian, Nairobi News reports.

Majority of those believe Mama Kayai was Mzee Ojwang’s real wife are Kenyans in the diaspora who have no clue of who the late pioneer of Kenyan comedy really was.

“Ever since news of Mzee Ojwang’s death broke, people from the diaspora have been calling condoling Mama Kayai instead of Augusta Wanjiru Wanjau,” Sally Wanjiru Kimani, Ojwang’s sister, is said to have toldNairobi News.

Mzee Ojwang’s real wife is called Augustina Wanjau.

”People should know this (pointing to Augusta) is the real wife and not Mama Kayai,” Wanjiru added.

Mary Khavere (Mama Kayai) and the late Mzee Ojwang formed a wonderful family on screen during their days at Vitimbi, prompting many people to believe they were a couple.

Mzee Ojwang succumbed to Pneumonia Sunday evening after he had been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

He died aged 78 and left behind two children, Patricia Njeri and Michael Karira, grandchildren and a wife, Augustina.
