Kenyan Terror Suspect Arrested In Uganda’s Makerere University Hostel Taking Pictures

Police at the weekend arrested a man of Somali origin but based in Kenya suspected to be an agent of the Al-Shabaab militant group, Uganda’s Daily Monitor reports.

This came after students in one of the established East African University’s hostels alerted the police of a suspicious man taking photos of the hostel.

This comes after an attack on Kenya’s Garissa University College that left 148 people dead, majority of them being the institution’s students.

Al Shabaab has since claimed responsibility for Kenya’s second deadliest attack on its soil.

A police spokesman in Uganda told the paper that the suspect is being investigated for his suspicious actions.

“He was found with pictures of the hostel and several pictures of warfare, including one in which he held a human head,” the spokesman said.

The suspect had been vending expensive cologne and watches in the university from where he was picked.

“We want to find out from him why he had a particular interest in a students’ hostel given the intelligence we got that terrorists are interested in harming educational institutions and facilities,” the spokesman added.
