Kenya Survives Eviction At The Maisha Superstar Reality Show
Sassy star rookie Myra Hamoud of Tanzania is the latest casualty in the ongoing music reality TV show Maisha Superstar.
Myra, who is coached by Tanzania’s popular artist Shaa exited the stage Monday night after tailing the remaining five contestants in the weekly Maisha Superstar show. She polled a paltry 67 points the lowest of the night leading to a final accumulative average tally of 79 points after six episodes.
Monday night’s performances also saw Phy and Damian Soul performing below par scooping 74 and 73 points respectively. Fila-h emerged tops during the 11th episode which was adjudicated by a team of seven judges including permanent judges Edward Kwach and Nazizi. The week’s guest judges comprising entertainment and music industries’ heavyweights were Tina Korrosso, Nancy Kacungira, Mike Strano, Stevens Muendo and Wangeci.
Myra who was backed on stage by her mentor Shaa, performed a Bongo cover song Baadaye originally done by fellow Tanzanian artist Omy Dimpos drawing a thunderous applause from a section of the fans and judges. Her on stage striking appearance and mellow voice were however not enough to grant her ticket to the next round of the show.
Shaa, who has been very supportive and equally defensive of her star rookie offered to sign Myra to her label while appreciating that the elimination was a blessing in disguise to the young Finance and Business graduate who studied in the United Kingdom. Myra’s exit drew tears from fellow contestants with Phy getting a hard time controlling the tears freely flowing down her face.
In other performances of the night, fast rising Tanzanian rookie Damian Soul entertained the studio audience and judges with a well performed cover version of Kenyan reggae artist Wyre’s song Ni Chuki earning him 73 points from the judges and the studio audience. Fila-h who had the highest points of the night presented an own composition titled Shiro which he dedicated to his girlfriend who was in attendance. The song was accompanied by a blend of traditional instruments.
Spirit Soul of Uganda performed a mash up of Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart and Get Lucky by Daft Punk earning her second highest points of the night while Kenya’s Phy presented a cover reggae song Hole in My Heart originally done by Dele who attentively sat with the audience as she listened to her song being done by an upcoming artist.
Maisha Superstar Show now enters the final two weeks where one more contestant will be eliminated leaving only three to battle it out for the Ksh 1.2 million cash prize and a recording deal with a major recording label on May 4th.
