Kenya Starts the Rio Paralympic Games with a Bang by Grabbing the Gold in the T11 5,000m Race for Blind Athletes (Photo)
The Paralympics in Rio kicked off on Wednesday (7th September) with the official competition starting yesterday (8th September) in the global games expected to run till the 18th of September.
During the 2nd day of the Paralympics, Kenya started off with a bang and won Africa’s first gold medal in the ongoing Games. The man of the hour was Samwel Kimani who whizzed past his competitors to win the gold in the men’s T11 5,000m race for blind athletes with guides.
Together with his guide Boit James, Samwel finished the race in a period of 15:16.11. Brazilian Odair Santos won the silver and another Kenyan Bill Wilson won the bronze.
