“Zero Chills! Destiny Etiko Clarifies and Apologizes After Kenyan Backlash”
Award-winning Nigerian actress Destiny Etiko, known for her large Kenyan following, faced backlash on social media recently over a post perceived by Kenyans as insensitive towards their protests against the withdrawn Finance Bill.
Etiko clarified that her intention was not to mock Kenyans but to highlight the resilience of Nigerians amidst their own challenges. She explained that the post, originally from another source, was misinterpreted.
“My post was meant to celebrate the strength of Nigerians facing hardships daily. I was unaware of the protests in Kenya at the time and did not intend any offense,” Destiny Etiko stated in her clarification.
She acknowledged the misunderstanding and emphasized that she took down the post upon realizing its unintended impact. Despite the deletion, she chose to address the issue publicly to prevent further misconceptions.
“I want to clear the air. I respect Kenyans and did not mean to belittle their situation. The post was about Nigerian resilience, not a commentary on Kenyan events,” she added.
Despite her explanation, some Kenyan social media users continued to express dissatisfaction, urging her to be more mindful in the future.
Destiny Etiko concluded by expressing regret for any offense caused and reiterated her respect for the Kenyan people’s current challenges.
