Woman Ordered to Pay Back Ex-Boyfriend After Selling “Gifted” Lamborghini
Erin Giumba, a 28-year-old estate agent, faces a hefty £300,000 court bill after selling her millionaire ex-boyfriend’s Lamborghini Urus and spending the proceeds on a lavish lifestyle. Ernest Siow, an entrepreneur and NFT trader, successfully sued her, claiming the car was not a gift.
Giumba and Siow met in Miami in 2022 and quickly entered a “brief but intense relationship.” Siow, who made money from Hypebears NFTs, bought a £260,000 Lamborghini Urus and registered it in Giumba’s name.
The couple’s relationship ended after a dinner in London. Giumba then sold the Lamborghini for £219,500 and spent the money on holidays, clothes, and partying.
Siow argued that the car was for his business use and was registered in Giumba’s name because he wasn’t a UK resident. Judge Nicholas Parfitt ruled in Siow’s favor, stating the Lamborghini was not a gift and Giumba had no right to sell it.
Giumba claimed the car was a gift and that Siow had allowed her to keep it after their breakup. She admitted to spending the money recklessly during a “deranged time” in her life.
Siow denied gifting the car and stated it was intended for his use when in London. He argued Giumba confused being the registered keeper with ownership.
Judge Parfitt found that the car was not a gift, citing Siow’s control over the vehicle and the unlikelihood of such a valuable item being a gift in a short-lived relationship. He ordered Giumba to pay Siow the £219,500 sale price, plus interest and £60,000 in legal fees. Giumba stated she did not have the funds.
Siow’s wealth stemmed from Hypebears NFTs, which were once valued at significant sums but have since plummeted in value due to the collapse of the NFT market. This collapse involved allegations of “rugpulls” and insider trading, leaving many investors with substantial losses.
