Why TV47 fired Ken Mijungu just days after he joined
Veteran journalist Ken Mijungu has parted ways with TV47 just weeks after joining the station.
An official letter dated February 22, 2025, from Cape Media Ltd—the parent company of TV47—confirmed the termination of Mijungu’s service agreement, which had been signed on January 31, 2025.
According to the letter, Mijungu had requested time off to reflect on his role at the station. After reviewing the situation, the management decided to terminate his contract effective immediately.
Despite his abrupt departure, Cape Media expressed openness to potential future collaborations, stating:
“This development notwithstanding, we shall be pleased to engage with you on future possibilities.”
Neither Mijungu nor TV47 has publicly addressed the reasons behind his exit, leaving room for speculation. The development comes amid Cape Media’s ongoing investments in expanding its operations.
Mijungu’s Short-Lived Tenure at TV47
His move to TV47 was perceived as part of the station’s strategy to strengthen its political and current affairs programming. Given his vast experience, he was expected to play a crucial role in shaping news coverage and analysis. However, his departure after just one month raises questions about what transpired behind the scenes.

This is not the first time Mijungu has had an unexpected exit from a major media house. In 2020, he was among the journalists laid off by NTV.
