Why Brian Chira’s Grandmother Plans to Sell Her TikTok-Funded House
Months after TikTokers raised KSh 8 million to build a comfortable home for Brian Chira’s grandmother, she has now revealed plans to sell the property.
Reasons Behind Her Decision
Last week, Chira’s grandmother made headlines when she expressed a desire to move into a container house, leaving many puzzled and disappointed. She has since clarified that her decision is not financially motivated but rather due to security concerns and challenges with the location.
Not a Financially Driven Sale
Addressing speculation, she reassured the public that her choice to sell was not due to financial hardship. She emphasized that she still had funds from the fundraiser, which she intends to safeguard for Chira’s youngest sibling’s education.
“I am not selling the house because I need money. I have enough for food, clothes, and other essentials. The funds you contributed are securely kept for young Chira’s school fees. He will study and even go to university,” she explained.
Security and Accessibility Concerns
Speaking during a TikTok live, she shared that the house’s location posed security risks.
“Money brings security, and if you have enough, you can ensure a safe environment,” she noted, hinting at the challenges of maintaining safety.
Additionally, she found the house’s location inconvenient, as it was farther from the road she was used to.
“I have struggled for a long time, even educating these children, and you all saw the rent arrears I had before moving,” she added.
However, she later apologized and promised to enhance security by reinforcing the fence with additional wiring.

Struggles with Loneliness
Beyond security and location concerns, she also mentioned feeling lonely in her new home. She expressed a deep longing for companionship and urged her late grandson’s friends to visit her.
Mixed Reactions from Netizens
Her revelation has sparked mixed reactions from TikTok users who contributed to the fundraiser. Many viewed the house as a tribute to Brian Chira, who had often spoken about his dream of building a home for his grandmother before his passing in March 2024.

Some felt that selling the house would disregard the heartfelt efforts of those who helped build it. Others suggested she stay off social media if she truly intended to sell, warning against seeking financial help again in the future.
However, some sympathized with her, acknowledging her right to live in a place where she feels safe and comfortable.
Whether she will go through with selling the house remains uncertain.
